'Dry Starfish from the British Museum'
Pastel on A4 paper
The third of three drawings I did in which I pick at the human fascination with presenting the carcasses of once alive and swimming creatures of the sea. Concept derived and inspired by Celeste Olalquiaga's book 'The Artificial Kingdom'.
This was a photo that I took at the British Museum, took home and resurrected onto paper with pastel. Hanging from the top of the page are fishing hooks, as the dried up starfish reminded me of a movie I used to watch constantly as a child; 'The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie' in which spongebob and Patrick dry up at the end of the film on a shelf in a kitschy sea-shell/sea-creature shop.
