Powdered Glass and fused in copper wire
I am based in Gateshead and have just graduated with a first class BA (Hons) in Glass and Ceramics from the University of Sunderland based at the National Glass Centre. And will be starting a MA in Glass in October. Something which I need to self fund due to being 64 years old. Novus Fructus was my artwork made for my second year piece that was shown in the "Dryrun" exhibition at the Shipley art gallery in Gateshead 2021. I made 7 different pieces varying in colours and shapes in total using different ways to joint the individual parts together. As I was mostly working from home due to lockdown I was restricted to a small 12in square kiln. So finding ways to make larger pieces gave me the idea of joining different shapes. Besides fusing copper wire within the glass powders was one way. I slso tried copper foiling as well as adding wire to copper foiling. The 3 pieces for my final artwork are all with the copper wire fused within them. Each individual part is fired 6 times to get the textures and shapes necessary.
