Washed Up
Glass on Scottish pebbles

Recently I have been captivated by numerous news images from around the world of war torn communities. In particular, the images relating to the abandoned possessions left behind and garments washed up on distant shores. There is great poignancy in clothing and possessions in their discarded state. They were clearly once loved and for a time, played an important role in a person’s life. To see these once loved garments end up as nothing more than detritus conveys a deep sense of sadness for me, as each piece of jettisoned clothing still retains an echo of the narrative of an individual's life.
