Beyond the Pines
Acrylic on canvas
Daniel Freaker
Portsmouth, UK

Amongst strangely iridescent vegetation, a man collects fire wood. The pine trees that frame him are like the ghosts of trees. And the plants at his feet are both there and missing. Solid and deliberate marks of rich colour suggest branches and leaves. As part of a narrative and with only the suggestion of a face, the painting provokes thoughts about his circumstance, and his solitude.
