In this project, I began in lockdown collaging non-traditional, found materials such as cardboard and packaging, specifically looking at form, edges and ways of enhancing texture. Working in this resourceful way, I was increasingly aware of how I was subverting the very concept of painting, and in order to further this notion, I explored ways of creating surface in plaster reliefs and built-up surfaces. Along this journey, I became captivated by man-made, deteriorated surfaces in particular pavements and the manner in which they are relayed over time due to the effects of weathering, wear, and seasonal change. The relationship between these created surfaces and composition has become the inspiration for my pieces.
