A straight river cuts through a bleak, flat winter landscape. Its banks are only sparsely overgrown, and ice rolls swim on the water. There is a house on its bank in the center of the picture. Although it is freezing cold, there is no smoke from the chimney. Is it uninhabited or have the residents not yet found time to start a fire?
