The Lovers on the Bridge (2)
Oil on Wood
“The Lovers on the Bridge” series depicts the scene of a homeless addict, Denis Lavant and a young painter, Juliette Binoche, forming a relationship while sleeping on Paris’s Pont-Neuf bridge. Inspired by Titus Kaphar’s “Yet Another Fight for Remembrance”, I applied the white-washed technique, allowing the subjects in the foreground to emerge. Similarly, Gerhard Richter's blurred portraits inspired me to attempt the squeegee technique by dragging paint across the smooth wood surface to obliterate and conceal the underpainting, creating both a hidden and a sinister effect.
