This piece is called getting older and is an oil painting which highlights how our worlds population is ageing. The juxtaposition of the elderly lady and the 18 candle emphasises the idea that with the massive advances with medicine and health knowledge is almost as if shes 18 and has her whole life ahead of her. Around 300 years ago life expectancy was around your late 20s compared to now where it is around the late 60’s. Medicine isn't the only factor for the aging population but i feel as though it was the best to represent in a painting
