Koi Pond
Mixed media (old photographs, acrylic painting) on canvas board)

Koi Ponds are a big deal in Japan, they are the pride of traditional gardens. Here I created one on what was a parking lot in front of a public building. The pond is so much nicer. This is one of a series of collages I created during lockdown, using a stash of old photographs I took in Tokyo when I lived there over 20 years ago, using a single-use camera. Looking at the pictures now I got struck by how much concrete there is in the cityscape, so I cut out most of it and replaced it with something more human-friendly, colourful and alive.
