‘Sheila’ represents the progress made in British society in the treatment of people with Down Syndrome. Depicted is my great aunt as a child in the 1950s. Her body is incomplete, representing the limitations placed on her by society at the time. Grey tones represent the past, whilst bright colours represent the future and the possibilities that surrounded her. The pattern fades to indicate that there is still progress to be made.
