Experiments in Pure Form 6
Indian in pen, acrylic and acrylic ink on acid free board
This piece was created over the course of the pandemic. From a time when I lived with family, to moving into a home of my own. The togetherness I found in creating this piece is one of self realisation, where a beauty in attention to detail became tangible for me as a visual artist. This piece in particular speaks to me of an inner playground that has found a lightness, a softer and clearer way of being and becoming. The 'mountain' in the top right reminds me of a dream I had as a child. We are never far from the dreams we keep alive inside of us, for they pattern our lives in unexpected and wonderful ways. Our dreams drift in like clouds in the wind and change in form or direction as easily as the weather. Even hindsight has the habit of changing the ways we see what we bring to and share in this world.
Within each of us live many images and formations. As I draw and paint, I experience mine through lines, dots and shapes. The repetition of a pattern or colour allows me to connect and draw attention to another part of a journey. Completed at the end of autumn 2021, this painting took me forwards into winter with a renewed sense of the beauty of inner life, regardless of the struggles we face on the outside. 2020 into 2021 has been a tough year for all of us. As patterns repeat themselves in nature, so too do we have more in common that could ever keep us apart.
