Invisible Threads - Woven 2
Acrylic, stitching, collage and mixed media on linen
Part of a series of work inspired by my family's connection with Blackburn. These works are about the cotton mills and their links to immigration, feminism and the search for a better life. Our modern day view is that mills were "bad" but families like mine chose to move to Blackburn because it offered better prospects for advancement, financial independence and security. These works aim to create a shift in perspective, to interrupt assumptions and make the viewer reconsider their viewpoint.
