Lines (Porthleven from above the Institute)
Oil on canvas

In this contre-jour view of Porthleven I was overlooking the back yards of cottages on Institute Hill and across to the other side of the harbour. The brilliant sunlight reflected off the whitewashed walls casting warm shadows onto opposing walls in subtle ochre and mauve. I liked the way the telegraph poles and wires were reminiscent of masts with their lengths of rigging - they were also echoed by the washing lines.
